Owners 1 & 2: Messrs. Browne

Owner 1: Hutchinson Hothersall Browne

H.H. Browne was Berkshire's oldest Justice of the Peace and the first owner of Moor Close, reportedly built in 1865. Browne was a wine merchant turned captain turned esquire. He lived in Australia for quite awhile. According to one source, he "was appointed Water Police Magistrate for Sydney when the office was established in 1840." He had no children.

In the book Bygone Berkshire, page 221, there is a mention of H. H. Browne in regards to a tree in Popes Wood.

Owner 2: Henry Robert Yates Browne

After H.H. Browne's death it seems the home was passed on to his nephew--Lieut-Col. Henry Robert Yates Browne. Colonel Browne was the son of the Archdeacon of Bath. Here is a will outlining the family relationships.

Does anyone know what R.H.A. stands for?

The 1903 Kelly's Directory had several entries for him.

It seems Colonel Browne might have died around 1906 in Monaco, according to a document (index) on Consular Deaths. The document says 1906-1910. 1906 makes sense since we have documentation of Mr. Crisp being at Moor Close in 1907.
