About This Blog

Over 25 years ago at the young age of 18, I couldn't begin to fully appreciate the history and architecture of Moor Close--the dormitory that was my home for 8 months--but I did wonder who once lived in the beautiful old home. I didn't know much, but I felt privileged to stay there and honored to dwell in the master bedroom overlooking Sylvia's Garden. Who was Sylvia? This blog will explore that question and a ton of other questions I've always had about this place that remains dear to my heart.

I want to apologize if I step on any toes with my research. I do not have a copy of Dr. Harry Leonard's book Moor Close: An Illustrated History of the House and its Gardens. I hope I am not taking away from this book--merely enhancing it. Thank you for the indulgence.

About Me

For nearly 20 years I have lived in Georgia, USA, where I am a graphic designer and children's book author. In my spare time instead of reading fiction, playing Sudoku or video games, I put together pieces of history. I am absolutely obsessed with finding stories and digging beyond a simple obituary to stitch together the lives of those who are gone and forgotten. I have done extensive research into my ancestry and have several blogs to this effect. I enjoy solving mysteries and helping people learn about their heritage.

When I dive into a family's history, I get to travel back in time and explore the place where they lived. I study the maps and learn about the locale--all without leaving my computer. It's a load of fun, and as I research Moor Close, I feel as if I'm there and time has stood still. This may be the only way I ever get to see the place again.

There have been thousands of people who have called Moor Close home, and I hope they will find this blog, enjoy my discoveries, and REDISCOVER Moor Close.

Enjoy!

  1. Really appreciate your research on Moor Close! I entered it for the first time last week and loved the 'country house' feel and wanted to know more. This really helps to satisfy my curiosity
